DARIUS · ORIGINAL ELECTRONIC MUSIC
Old-school roots. An open horizon.
Electronic music, retro imagination and a personal journey through sound. Made for the pleasure of creating. Shared for the pleasure of listening.
A place for the music
I'm Dario, and I make electronic music under the name darius. This website is a home for the tracks I create: a place to listen, explore an album, watch the sound become light and take the music with you afterwards. Music is my hobby, and sharing it is part of the enjoyment. Every album and individual track available here can be downloaded for free.
I'm drawn to the early days of electronic music: the sense of discovery, the character of synthesizers and the idea that a repeating sequence can open the door to something much larger. My music brings those vintage influences into my own present-day creative world. Sometimes that means a driving beat; sometimes it means a more atmospheric journey. There is room for both.
The fascination with electronic sound
Jean-Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk and the wider world of old-school electronic music are important points of reference for me. What interests me is the space between rhythm and atmosphere: the way a pulse can hold a piece together while layers of sound suggest movement, distance or a changing landscape.
Electronic music gives a composer an unusually open palette. A sound can provide the melody, establish the rhythm or become the environment around both. A small change in tone can alter the feeling of a passage. Repetition can build anticipation, while a new texture can make a familiar pattern feel different. That combination of structure and possibility is a large part of the appeal.
These influences are a starting point for making something personal. The aim is to follow an idea until it becomes a piece of music worth sharing, whether it arrives as a steady electronic groove or a quieter passage that leaves more room for the imagination.
Press play on tape
My connection with older technology goes beyond a visual style. I've collected retro computers over the years, including Commodore 64s, Atari machines, MSX computers, Sinclair systems and older Macs. I was also one of the co-founders of Peek&Poke in Rijeka. That world of curiosity, experimentation and discovery remains close to me.
For anyone who remembers home computers and cassette loading, the words “Press Play On Tape” carry a particular kind of anticipation. They also became the title of a track on Diary of Life. A short instruction can hold an entire era of memories: waiting for something to load, wondering what would appear and discovering what a small machine could do.
That retro connection sits naturally alongside electronic music. Both leave plenty of room for play. Technology offers the tools, but curiosity supplies the reason to keep experimenting.
The albums: Out of Love and Diary of Life
Out of Love is the first album in this collection. It sits alongside Diary of Life, the newer album that is growing as I finish and add more music. Together, they form a developing record of my work as darius.
Diary of Life includes tracks such as “Welcome”, “Your Name Is”, “Knowledge Is Power”, “Press Play On Tape” and “Jimmy”. The album is a work in progress, so the collection can change as new tracks arrive. The player shows the current track list, running order and total playing time.
You can listen from the beginning of an album or choose an individual track. Playback continues through that album and stops when it reaches the end. If you want to keep listening elsewhere, download a single MP3 or the complete album as a ZIP. The album download includes the tracks currently available.
When sound becomes a landscape
The visual side of this website grew from the same spirit of experimentation. It was created together with Aion as a companion to the music: a collection of environments that respond to what is playing. Bass, midrange and higher frequencies influence different parts of the scenes, turning changes in the sound into movement, colour and light.
Neon Horizon combines a glowing wireframe landscape with a floating sphere and structures that rise with the music. Prism Passage travels through a winding triangular tunnel, with reflective forms changing at its centre. Aion Resonance explores an atom-like arrangement of a nucleus, orbiting particles and luminous paths; move your mouse to change its orientation. Neon Pursuit takes the journey onto a neon-lit road, following a sports car through a tunnel.
For a simpler experience, the 2D equalizer turns the music into colourful frequency bars and their reflection. You can switch between 2D and 3D while a track is playing. Choose whichever works best on your device, or whichever suits the way you want to listen.
Free to listen. Free to take with you.
There is no purchase required to hear the music or download the available MP3s. I make these tracks because I enjoy making music, and I share them because I want them to be heard. Choose an album, press play and spend a little time in this corner of electronic sound.
If something here stays with you, share the website with someone who might enjoy it too. And come back when you feel like another listen: there may be a new track waiting.
Thanks for listening.
